Reflection on the Movies project

My reflections about the movie project we did during this course are positive. I really enjoyed watching the The Elder and Hunting videos, they were not only entertaining but educational as well. I totally recommend this movie project for anyone to want to learn about our language. It is a great tool to have especially in the school setting where it could be utilized for all children k-12 and into higher ed classes.

Ojibway language

hey everyone! well my tech journey has been quiet lately but i am still trying to hang in there. I reviewed the ojibwa words that Brian has posted up. i liked the words that were posted up especially the level of difficulty that they were set up. i enjoyed going through the levels of vocabulary and understanding. When i got to the hardest level, i found some words to be different for me as i never used those specific words. I found this to be very interesting and made me think of my own knowledge of words and my own vocabulary?

Page 26,27,29

The reference sheets were fun to read, again some words were different for me but overall were fun and interesting to me, page 29 when i opened it was upside down...Anyways the technology part to this course continues to be fun and interesting.

Page 1 and 2

I looked at the pages that were assigned for this past week. i read through the words on each paper, i found a couple of words that were kinda confusing probably because i use different words in certain situations, but i did have fun going through them. I find reading the words and than trying to pronounce them a little difficult, its easier for me just to talk the language rather that trying to piece together certain words. all in all its fun and interesting.

Wimba tools

I really like playing around with the applications here, they could be very useful if one should consider teaching Ojibwa language for K-12 or higher education. I have also visited the Ojibwa movie the hunters and i thought it was funny as to where they were hunting at. Right next to the house, made the movie interesting and the conversations that the characters were having were commical. It was fun and interesting.

Flash cards and Multiple choice.....

I have had fun with the flash cards and multiple choice programs on the before you know it language software. It has not only been fun, but very helpful for me as a speaker of the Ojibwa language. The program is an effective way for beginning learners to grasp the basic concepts of the language and just basically have fun learning the vowel system. The multiple choice was also very ammusing for me, I think a very good learning tool.

Hypothesis 2

Opportunities should be provided for students to practice carrying out a range of functions likely to be necessary in dealing with others in the target culture?

Traditional class room instructional settings tend to limit the role of the student to that of a responder; that is, students are most often asked to answer questions.
Students are also seldom asked to make inquiries narrate or describe events, hypothesize or argue or provide opinions in the targeted culture.

Well it has been an interesting new project in using this wimba program. I attempted to use it and i sent a speech to Brian, I am hoping that he got it? but we will see if i get a response from him. i am enjoying the other things that we are doing with this class and i am sure we will all do well.

Page 51-54 Teaching Language

How do adults become proficient in a second language? I found this reading to be interesting in terms of what scholars think about second language acquisition. Some speculate that second language learning is equivocally taught to individuals and thus pick up on it. Although some may agree on this,i do not. I think second language learning is done by individuals who are immersed in a language even though sometimes it may not be there own culture, it seems that individuals pick up languages in that environment.

Tech Journey

Well, its been quite a technology journey for me learning how to post and interact with other co hort members of this group. I am still having some difficulties on blogging but i think i am making some progress, i think. I hope you are enjoying your journey on technology as well?

Isn't technology awsome! I really dont have much to say except that i am thoroughly enjoying this tech journey.
Well i just returned from my homeland up in Northwestern Ontario, unfortunately my visit home was for the purpose of burying my sister who was a great person and sister to me. In any case, I was thrilled to be able to visit old friends and especially speak in my native tongue, i had so much fun talking and sharing with my friends and relatives that i was sad to leave in such a short time there. I realized that our language is so important and that we cannot afford to lose such a great and sacred language, speaking and sharing was so much more meaningful that its so difficult to describe. I just wanted to mention that this co hort has enhanced my desire to save the language, not only for my people, but for all Native Americans.
